Brief reviews and thoughts about children's and young adult books by Minnesota authors (or illustrators), or about Minnesota. If I get the urge, it may also include ideas for using the books in the classroom. The emphasis is on books published since 1995, but don't be surprised if an oldie-but-goodie slips in occasionally.

Miss Little's Gift
In this autobiographical story, author Douglas Wood tells of how a special second grade teacher helped him learn to read despite his ADHD. A book that is featured in the story is The Little Island, a story that reflected some of Douglas' life experience while visiting northern Minnesota. Years later when he wrote Old Turtle, he sent a copy and special 'thank you' note to his former teacher. The bright warm illustrations by Jim Burke add atmosphere to the story.
