Brief reviews and thoughts about children's and young adult books by Minnesota authors (or illustrators), or about Minnesota. If I get the urge, it may also include ideas for using the books in the classroom. The emphasis is on books published since 1995, but don't be surprised if an oldie-but-goodie slips in occasionally.

Night Driving
A father and son are driving to the mountains for a camping trip. This trip is special because they are driving at night, and share a number of special experiences that could only occur at night. Written by John Coy with sepia-toned minimal illustrations by Peter McCarty to set the mood, this is a special father-son story.

Thanks. I love this book, too. I was particularly fortunate that Henry Holt chose Peter McCarty as the illustrator. This was Peter's first picture book, and his illustrations capture the mood of the story beautifully.
Enjoy the trip.
John Coy
